Our History
Fit Reisenmakes healthy holidays affordable and enjoyable
Owner Herbert Haum was proud of his life’s work. The pioneer of healthy travel had created a new market in the past 30 years.
The Fit Reisen brand had become synonymous with holidays with healthy added value.
In addition to the beginnings with classic spa and fitness trips, he and his team had developed the travel market for Ayurveda, wellness and fasting. When it was time to find a successor due to his age, there was a lot to do: The body and health consciousness of the population increased, the growing health travel market waited for new, innovative offers. To achieve this, the connection to modern IT systems had to be set in motion, and the Internet called for an appealing appearance.
Nils Asmussen and Jan Seifried take over!
The concept of the management consultant duo Jan Seifried and Nils Asmussen was finally convincing.
“We take everything and make it really big,” was her brave vision. Their newly founded company Transmedic, which specialized in prevention trips with subsidies from health insurance companies, developed positively, but it lacked the big push. The opportunity arose when they both took over the management of the long-established specialist tour operator on 1 September 2009.
From spa travel provider to Europe’s largest organiser of health and wellness holidays
A lot has happened since then. The portfolio was expanded, the website fitreisen.de was strengthened as an additional sales channel, and the team was expanded. The Fit Reisen brand grew by at least 20 percent every year.
Ayurveda, yoga, nutrition and detox, burnout prevention, spa and wellness trips are the main segments of the innovative provider today.
The subsidiary “SpaDreams” for the international market, founded in 2012, the online provider “kurz-mal-weg.de” and the Ayurveda specialist tour operator “aytour” were added and gave the new Fit Reisen Group – in addition to its booming core business – an additional leap in growth. The latest new addition is the online voucher portal Tripz, which moved under the umbrella of the Group in December 2018. Since its launch in 2009, the group’s total revenue has risen by more than 900 percent.
With fun, enthusiasm and the start-up feeling
“Jobs at travel companies used to be the most fun for me,” laughs Jan Seifried, “what a privilege I get to do that every day now. What’s particularly great is that we can now manage the company as we want. Managing director colleague Nils Asmussen has a similar view: “I can let off steam when it comes to digitization. That’s my thing. We have brought enthusiastic, motivated people to us. Everyone has their team, Jan in Frankfurt, I in Hamburg. A casual tone and many team events are a must for us.”
Despite a team that has now grown to over 100 employees, the Fit Reisen Group has retained its fresh start-up spirit.
Mindfulness, Selfness and Co – the Fit Reisen Group still has a lot to do
At four locations – Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, Leipzig and Starnberg – the teams turn trends into innovative travel arrangements, are contacts for over 1,200 hotels, publish at least nine catalogues with around 10,000 products a year, maintain websites in nine languages and look after customers in over 140 countries. What’s still to come?
“We want to continue to grow in the future through start-ups and acquisitions”,
explains Nils Asmussen, “stronger than the market.” Jan Seifried nods: “Without compromising on quality, value for money and personal customer service”. That pays off: As the largest group member, Fit Reisen has already received several awards, most recently the n-tv Award as “Best Wellness Portal 2018” for the second time. They both agree that it was a good idea to take over the company in 2009 despite all the work and daily challenges.
